Classic technique of Dhokra art

The process begins with collecting clay, mixed with Khuda (rice paddy husk), forming a dough used as a binding agent. This core clay structure represents the final design. Subsequently, a mix of beeswax, Damar, and nut oil is shaped and wrapped around the figures, creating the distinctive Dhokra appearance.

The brass fragment is then inserted into the mold and heated, causing the wax to melt and ooze out, leaving behind the desired metal shape. The final piece is then meticulously crafted and finished, resulting in a stunning Dhokra creation.

Dhokra artisans’ products are known for their intricate folk patterns and clean, defined lines. Besides traditional jewelry, contemporary Dhokra artists craft a range of items, from home decor like wall panels and decorative frames to kitchenware such as water jugs and coasters.
